The Sacred Language of Drums
In Ugandan heritage, drums are far more than instruments—they are historical conduits. Drums like the Engalabi (long cylinder drum), Embuutu (lead bass drum), and Empuunyi (rhythm keeper) communicated state announcements, summoned assemblies, and celebrated royal court occasions across centuries.
Bakisimba & The Royal Dances
Dances such as Bakisimba, Nankasa, and Muwogola originated in the royal courts of Buganda. The intricate hip and torso articulation mimics the celebratory gait of the Kabaka (King), gracefully accompanied by rhythmic seed gourds and vocal chants.
